Fire Alarm Design & Permit Drawings

Core Service

A complete fire alarm permit drawing package is the foundation of every project. It is what the AHJ reviews, what the inspector references in the field, and what protects the project if questions arise after installation. We produce permit drawing packages that are accurate, NFPA 72-based, and formatted to meet AHJ submission requirements.

Our drawings are produced from your architectural floor plans and equipment selections. We lay out devices to meet NFPA 72 spacing and placement requirements, develop the riser diagram, and include all system notes, legends, and general notes required for plan review. We design around the equipment you are using — we do not require you to change your panel or device line to work with us.

The permit package includes equipment submittal documentation as well — manufacturer cut sheets and data sheets for every device and panel component, organized with a cover sheet and cross-referenced against the project specifications where applicable. It is one package that serves the AHJ, the engineer of record, and the project team.

If the AHJ issues plan review corrections, we prepare the written response and revised drawings for you to resubmit. We stay with the project until the permit is issued.

Design Review & Certification

Independent Review Service

Independent design review is a technical evaluation of a fire alarm design package conducted by a party separate from the designer. It is used when an objective, code-based assessment of a design is required — before the package goes to the AHJ, before installation begins, or as a condition of project delivery.

We review the complete design package — drawings, calculations, sequence of operations, equipment documentation, and any applicable specifications — against NFPA 72 and local amendments. Each element is evaluated independently. We identify deficiencies, code conflicts, calculation errors, and documentation gaps, and we issue a written review letter with itemized findings and supporting code references for each item.

After the designer or contractor addresses the identified items, we review the revised package to confirm all findings have been resolved. Where the project scope and requirements call for it, we provide certification documentation confirming the design package meets applicable code requirements.

This service is available to owners, developers, project managers, general contractors, and fire protection firms who need an independent technical assessment of a fire alarm design — separate from the firm that produced it.

What's Included

  • Review of complete design package
  • Code compliance analysis (NFPA 72 + local amendments)
  • Deficiency identification with code references
  • Calculation review (battery, voltage drop)
  • Documentation completeness assessment
  • Written review letter with itemized findings
  • Revised document review (after corrections)
  • Certification documentation (where appropriate)

Who This Is For

  • Property owners and developers
  • General contractors requiring independent review
  • Fire protection firms needing outside review
  • Project managers overseeing fire alarm scope
  • Architects and engineers of record
  • Contractors seeking pre-submission review

AHJ Support & Plan Review Response

Permitting Support

Plan review corrections are a routine part of the permitting process. AHJs issue comments ranging from minor documentation requests to substantive design questions. How those comments are addressed — and how quickly — directly affects your permit timeline and project schedule.

When your permit comes back with corrections, send us the plan review comments. We review each item, prepare a written response that addresses the AHJ's concern with supporting code references, and revise the drawings as needed. We deliver the complete resubmittal package to you — you submit it to the AHJ. We communicate directly with you throughout the process so you know exactly what is being addressed and when to expect the package.

We also provide code interpretation support for contractors and project teams who need a clear technical answer before committing to a design approach or responding to an AHJ inquiry. If you have a code question on a project, we can help you work through it.

What's Included

  • Review of AHJ plan review comments
  • Written response to each correction item
  • Supporting NFPA 72 code references
  • Drawing revisions as required
  • Resubmittal package preparation
  • Code interpretation support
  • Specification review (on request)

Why It Matters

  • Keeps your permit timeline on track
  • Reduces back-and-forth with the AHJ
  • Provides documented code support for each correction
  • Frees you to focus on the job site
  • Included with all permit drawing packages

Design-Build Support & Fire Protection Consulting

Consulting Service

Design-build fire alarm projects require technical input earlier in the process than traditional bid-spec work. When a contractor or project team is responsible for both the design and the installation, the decisions made during estimating and preconstruction directly affect cost, schedule, and the ability to get a permit.

We engage with design-build contractors and project teams during the estimating phase to help develop a system concept, identify equipment, and produce preliminary drawings for pricing. We review project specifications and identify any requirements that affect system design or equipment selection. Once the project is awarded, we develop the full permit drawing package.

We also provide fire protection consulting for contractors, owners, and project teams who need technical guidance on system design questions, code interpretation, sequence of operations development, or equipment compatibility issues. If you have a technical question on a project, we can help you work through it.

What's Included

  • Preconstruction system concept development
  • Equipment selection and compatibility review
  • Preliminary drawings for estimating
  • Specification review and compliance analysis
  • Sequence of operations development
  • Code interpretation and technical consulting
  • Full permit drawing package (post-award)

Who This Is For

  • Contractors bidding design-build projects
  • Design-build teams with fire alarm scope
  • Contractors needing technical guidance
  • Projects with performance specifications
  • Complex or multi-building projects
